As I close out this episode, I want to take this time to wish you and yours a happy New Year and to pose a bit of a challenge to you, because if you haven’t already now is the time to make the commitment that 2008 will be the year you finally achieve your lifestyle and business goals.
Here are 5 simple insights I personally used to take my business to new heights, I hope they resonate with you in the “5 Core Areas” of your life where change must take place in order to get what it is you say you want:
1. Mental - French-born author Anais Nin once said, “We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.”
If this is indeed true, who do you see yourself to be?
Are your thoughts about success, happiness and overall well being consistent with the way things really are for the majority of the world or are you seeing only a side of life that is colored by who you’ve been up to now?
The Beyond Money Principles were born from a desire to settle once and for all a myth that money in and of itself is both the problem and solution. This could not be further from the truth.
Most people have been wrongly conditioned to believe that "more money equals more problems" and yet at the same time they think "if I just had more money I wouldn't have all these problems."
This contradiction goes much deeper than what is obvious on the surface because there will always be a direct connection between your thoughts, beliefs and actions.
Consider this, if you’ve ever thought “Rich people are greedy” yet you’ve said, “I’d like to be rich on day...” can you see the conflict that those two opposing thoughts can cause in your financial life?
Logically, how could you possibly take the consistent steps necessary to becoming rich when you do not ever want to be considered greedy?
This is why the first step in going to the next level in your business, life and finances is recognizing the need to go beyond money to experience true abundance and success.
What are the six Beyond Money Principles that will be introduced and discussed in full detail in this segment?
Each principle plays a powerful and profound role in your growth and will allow you to strengthen your relationship with money to experience a higher level of success and satisfaction or allow you to develop a healthy relationship with money that will last a lifetime.
Lessons In Lifestyle Design: Episode #1 - Segment #3
Lifestyle design is the concept that you have the power and the right to design the life you want on your own terms - right now.
It explodes the myth that you have to wait until you retire to enjoy your life or that you have to be a multi-millionaire to live a rich and lavish existence.
What are the fundamentals of lifestyle design?
When I first heard about lifestyle design it seemed like nothing more than a new catch phrase for an old concept, then I began to really think about the phrase and look at each word carefully.
Lifestyle as defined by Webster's dictionary means, "A way of being that reflects a persons individual preferences or values"
Design means, “To have as a plan or intention.”
So for me, lifestyle design means, “To have the intention of living a life that reflects a desire for fulfillment, love for family, need for focus, understanding of finances and appreciation for fun.”
As I thought about this concept it became apparent to me that there were lessons I needed to learn in each of the five areas identified as a fundamental part of the definition.
In this segment I will explore and provide insight and information on at least one of the five fundamental areas that are necessary to be aware of when holding the intention to design a life that is fitting of your unique calling.
For the sake of introduction, I’d like to give you a glimpse into each area:
Fulfillment is the act of containing all that is possible. When it’s our desire to be fulfilled we are seeking to satisfy the voice within that tells us there is more to the life we are living than we’re currently experiencing.
A desire for fulfillment does not ignore the need to be content in the moment, rather it empowers us to strive for deeper experiences and richer connections in everything we do.
A big inspiration for this podcast and one of my modern day mentors is Timothy Ferriss, author of "The 4-Hour Workweek"
If you haven't heard about the book that's flying in the face of conventional wisdom and makes a very solid argument for retirement being the "worse case scenario insurance" - then you have to read this book.
I'll warn you that I don't believe Tim's philosophy is for everyone, but what I do believe is everyone who dares to read this book will find just enough discomfort to make a move closer to living their ideal lifestyle.
Ferriss introduces the reader to the 4-step New Rich concept he created using the D-E-A-L acronym as a model for designing a life that embraces all that life has to offer in the moment versus someday.
D represents definition - you must be crystal clear on what you want for your life if you’re ever going to have any hope of getting it.
In chapter four, System Reset, Ferriss suggests that asking a vague question like, “what are your goals” does not get you as close to truly defining what you really want as asking, “what excites you?” or “what is your desired outcome that makes all the effort worthwhile?”
The book provides several exercises that makes answering these deeper meaning questions possible.
In step two, E stands for elimination and the author sheds light on the idea of being effective vs. efficient and challenges the reader to spend 99% of the time being effective which is doing the things that get you closer to your goals.
In this segment I will provide very specific answers to the questions on your mind so feel free to ask me your biggest question about going to the next level.
The other day, I put on my "Roving Reporter" hat and polled several people who had just attended a "Think & Grow Rich" seminar in New York City.
I asked several people "What's your biggest question about going to the next level?
Just like you, the people who took the time to attend the seminar wanted to get insight and information to take their lives and businesses to the next level.
The first question is from Paul Williams in New York… How can I maintain the ability to stay focused on one stream of income at a time?
Answer: I’d start by telling you to get very clear about what you really want. I have found that for most of my clients and myself included, when you’re not sure what you want - you’ll look for any vehicle to get you there.
Chasing multiple opportunities usually means one of three things needs to be addressed:
1. Lack of clarity on what you want or on how the specific opportunity you’ve chosen will help you get what you want
2. Lack of commitment to the process and the income path you’ve chosen
3. The vehicles you’ve tried in the past are not the best fit for your goals
To be more specific, if you have a plan to make an additional $100,000 from a business venture and history shows that it will require a part-time commitment of 20 hours per week for a full year to make that happen then you will have to put the time and effort in consistently for at least three months to see if you are on pace with reaching your goals.
