The last two weeks of the year for me have been just as full as any other two weeks on the calendar, in fact more so because I’ve had 4 television appearances, conducted two phone interviews and coached several of my clients in intense one-on-one sessions all while maintaining my regular work load.
One of my favorite phrases is, “It’s not over ‘til its over” and that’s especially true when it comes to the end of the year.
Something strange starts to happen to people around late October, the reality of the end-of-year coming hits them and their thoughts turn to the fact that they had several things they wanted to do but haven’t yet done.
Now while there are plenty of things that they did accomplish all they think about are the things that didn’t get to do and with more than two full months left to go, the majority of people will look at the calendar and proclaim the year is “over.”
They’ll give up on trying to make any additional progress on reaching their goals and instead make a hollow promise to “get back on track” after the holidays or in the New Year.
Nonsense!
The year is not over, until its over.
There is always something that you can do to finish strong, now this is not to say that you’ll be able to cram two months worth of incomplete projects into the last few days of the year, but what I am suggesting is that you determine the top TWO things (yup- just 2) that you are not only capable of completing, but will complete in the time remaining.
They can be anything - big or small, the emphasis isn’t as much on the tasks you pick as it is on the outcome and benefit you’ll receive, because completing these things will not only give you the confidence and momentum you need to end the year on a high note, it will also set you up for success in the year to come.
So while most people are content to throw in the towel, you know that the only way to get to your desired destination is to never, ever, ever give up - especially when the finish line is within view.
This is what separates those who wish for what they want from those who work for - and get it.
I encourage you to live everyday to the fullest - even the last days of the year.
Here’s to finishing strong and making 2008 great!
